Experience the open plains and high country bush of northern Kosciuszko National Park. Situated at the northern end of Long Plain, this area features long unburnt tall forest with grassy plains. Expect lots of variety in this course, where the setters are wanting to show you it all. Hosted by the ACT Rogaining Association we would like to take you to rogaine in an area that is a bit different.
The course is being set by experienced rogainers David Baldwin and Julie Quinn, with help from other ACT rogainers. You should expect a course that rewards careful navigation and will encourage you to get off the few fire trails in the area.
The event is approximately 3:15 hrs from central Canberra, 5:30 hrs from central Sydney via Tumut or 5:45 via Cooma, 6:50 from central Melbourne.
ACTRA will run a bus to the event from Canberra including Canberra airport, departing Friday afternoon and returning late afternoon/early evening on Sunday. Details to come on this, including optimising departure times for flights. Bus people will have water supplied and tables/chairs to use at the event.
The Hash House will be situated in a basic national park campground that has nice grassy areas to set up your tents and places to park a caravan or RV. There is no power or water on site so please be self-sufficient. There are drop toilets and portaloos. We will have a large marquee with a limited number of tables and chairs for everyone's use. Camping will be available from Friday night to Sunday night inclusive. The nearest other accommodation is a small amount at Yarrangobilly Caves House and Providence Portal, otherwise Adaminaby (70km), Talbingo (52km) or Tumut (87km) are the closest towns.
The Hash House is at 1350 m elevation with parts of the course over 1500 m so while it is late summer please come prepared in case the weather is very cold (both when you are camping and rogaining).
More detail with a dedicated website to come. In the meantime check out the photo gallery from our setters first recce.
